Stockton, Calif. -The Stanford men's volleyball team lost to No. 14 Pacific in four games Friday, February 3at the Spanos Center. The Cardinal droppedthe first two games, 30-25 and 30-22; won 30-23 in the third and thenPacific closed the match in game four, 30-23.
The Tigers, playing the Cardinal for the fourth time in less than fourmonths and for the second time this season, jumped off to a quick startin the first set, running out to a 9-2 lead early on. Behind sophomoreSimon Chen-Byerley's serving, Pacific accumulated a 9-1 lead and neverlooked back through the first two games.
The Tigers ended game one with a five-point victory as senior BrianAdamson had six first-set kills for the team. Game two was much of thesame with Pacific getting leads of seven and eight at various points inthe game before putting away Stanford for good at 30-22.
The Cardinal jumped back and regained momentum in the third set,beating Pacific 30-23. Senior Ben Reddy workedhis way towards a team-high 13 kills. The Tigers were able to rebound ingame four and handed the Cardinal their third loss of the night.
Reddy added a team-high four service aces on the night. Seniors Chris Ahlfeldt, William Clayton and Jeremy Jacobs also had strong performances. Ahlfeldt notched 12 kills, Clayton smashed nine kills and recorded seven digs, and Jacobs dished out 36 assists for the match.
With the loss the Cardinal falls to 2-9 overall and 1-6 in the MPSF, while the Tigers move to 3-7 overall and 2-5 in conference play.
Next up Stanford will host Pacific on Wednesday, February 8 at 7:00 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion.
