Stanford, Calif. - Stanford was swept 3-0 tonight by No. 6 UCLA in front of 727 fans at Burnham Pavilion. The Bruins won the MPSF match with game scores of 30-25, 30-20, and 30-20. With the loss, Stanford's record falls to 4-21 overall and 2-17 in the MPSF. UCLA improves to 17-12 overall and 9-10 in conference play.

In game one, the two squads battled to a tied score of 12-12 before the Bruins jumped ahead for good. UCLA's Steve Klosterman and Scott Damien led the game with five kills each. Stanford was led by outside hitter Jesse Meredith, middle bocker Matt Ceran, and opposite Ben Reddy with three kills each.

In game two the teams traded points through the first half of the game. Ceran had a solo block of UCLA's quick hitter Nick Scheftic to pull the Cardinal within 3 points at 17-20. However, Scheftic and David Russel each recorded four kills to lead the Bruins to victory. Stanford was led by Ceran with three kills.

The Bruins jumped out to an early lead in game three and never looked back. Scheftic served for six points early in the game, including two service aces. For the Cardinal, Reddy had his strongest game of the night with seven kills, and freshman middle blocker Brandon Williams came off the bench to record three kills.

Reddy led Stanford for the match with 12 kills, while Meredith pounded seven for the night. Setter Jeremy Jacobs dished out 24 assists, and Ceran and libero Brian Lindberg recorded seven and six digs, respectively. The Bruins were led by Klosterman with 11 kills and Scheftic with ten kills and three service aces.

The Cardinal will conclude its home schedule tomorrow night against the No. 1 team in the nation, UC Irvine. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m. in Burnham Pavilion and the Cardinal will honor its five seniors: Chris Ahlfeldt, William Clayton, Jeremy Jacobs, Nick Manov, and Ben Reddy.
