Bruch improved his overall record to 30-8 with today's win. He is also 18-5 vs. nationally ranked opponents and 5-0 in this year's NCAA Championships. A First-Team All-Pac-10 selection, Bruch was also named the conference's Newcomer of the Year and the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Rookie to Watch.
Corkery and Morant-Rivas had met earlier this season at the National Indoor Championships in November with Corkery recording a 6-2, 6-1 win. Today, however, the Cardinal senior had a much tougher time putting Morant-Rivas away.
Corkery and Morant-Rivas split the first two sets and battled to 4-4 and 5-5 ties in the third and deciding set before Corkery held serve at 6-5 and broke Morant-Rivas' serve to win the final set 7-5.
Corkery is now 28-5 overall this season. Tomorrow, he will play a second round singles match and an opening round doubles match with partner James Pade.
