Stanford, Calif. - Stanford's Theresa Logar is the only player with a number next to her name still alive in the singles draw as the women prepare for the semifinals tomorrow. Logar knocked off top-seeded and second-ranked Kristi Miller of Georgia Tech to earn a spot in tomorrow's semifinals.
No. 9-16 seed Logar, who had defeated Miller earlier this season 6-7 (5), 6-2, 6-1 in the semifinals of the ITA National Indoor Championship, posted a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 win over the only other seeded player remaining in the draw to earn a spot in the final four tomorrow at noon against Cal's Suzi Babos. Babos defeated Riza Zalameda of UCLA, 7-5, 6-1, earlier today in the quarterfinals.
On the other half of the bracket, USC's Lindsey Nelson posted a 5-7, 6-0, 6-3 victory over Stanford's Celia Durkin to advance to tomorrow's match against Megan Moulton-Levy of William & Mary. The two will square off at 1:30 p.m.
In doubles, top-ranked and top-seeded Alice Barnes and Anne Yelsey had an easier day, winning in straight sets to advance to the semis. They will face Northwestern pair Cristelle Grier and Alexis Prousis, who the Cardinal duo defeated 8-6 in the fall in the Round of 16 at the ITA National Indoor Championship. The rematch is set for 3 p.m.
In the lower half of the bracket, North Carolina's Sara Anundsen and Jenna Long, seeded 5-8, will take on another 5-8 seed, Lucia Sainz and Katharina Winterhalter of Fresno State, who knocked off the second-seeded Miami duo of Audra Cohen and Melissa Applebaum in straight-sets this afternoon.
