NorCal Water Polo Tournament - Day Two

Stanford, Ca - Cal's Frank Reynolds scored with 1:29 to play to lift top-ranked California to a come-from-behind 10-9 victory over Stanford on Sunday morning during second day action at the 2006 NorCal Water Polo Tournament at the Avery Aquatic Center.

Reynold's winning goal was also Cal's first lead of the game. Stanford had led by as many as three goals, 5-2, at halftime. However, three straight goals by Cal's John Mann in the third period tied the game at 5-5. Goals by Drac Wigo and Will Hindel-Katel gave Stanford a 7-5 lead, but Cal tied the game at 7-7 on a goal by Brian Bacharach with 7:30 remaining in the game.

Stanford pulled in front at 9-7 on goals by Michael Bury and Hindle-Katel with 4:16 remaining. But Mann scored again for Cal at 4:25 and Michael Sharf tied the game at 9-9 with 2:37 remaining.

In the third place game, UCLA scored a 7-6 victory over the Cardinal on Sunday afternoon. Tyler Drake led the Stanford attack with two goals.

In the championship game, top-ranked California fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 10-7 loss to second-ranked and defending NCAA champion USC.

Second-ranked and defending NCAA champion USC knocked top-ranked California from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 10-7 victory in the championship game of the NorCal Tournament. The Trojans led 7-6 after the three quarters, and then scored three straight times in the final period on goals by Juan Delgadillo, J.W. Krumpholz, and Joe Cocsentino to ice the game. The victory increase USC's season record to 6-0. The Golden Bears fell to 11-1.
