Meet Coverage: 2007 Pac-10 Men's & Women's Diving Championships
Federal Way, Wash. - Stanford diver Cassidy Krug dominated the competition on her way to the women's 3-meter diving crown Friday on the first day of the 2007 Pac-10 Men's & Women's Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Krug scored 367.30 points to beat her nearest competitor by a notable 43.10 points. The victory was Krug's second Pac-10 title and first in the conference's 3-meter event after settling for runner-up in each of her first three seasons as a collegian. Krug's previous Pac-10 championship was a 1-meter victory as a freshman in 2004.
"It felt really good," said Krug about Thursday's win. "In the finals today, it was the best I've felt in all year. I've been working on technical things to help me do my dives better, and I was able to do that better in the finals today than I have in a while. I saw improvement in myself, which was really nice."
"I'm really pleased overall with where she is right now," added Stanford head diving coach Dr. Rick Schavone about his five-time All-American who is in her final season on The Farm. "Today was a really big step forward for Cassidy. UCLA threw three big divers at her, and she dominated them."
Katie Lampe also reached the finals for the Cardinal, finishing fifth with 292.60 points. Sarah Ohr just missed making the early evening session when she was ninth in the prelims (244.95) earlier in the day. Carmen Stellar (16th, 221.90) and Shana Karp (18th, 220.80) also dove in the prelims for Stanford.
The three-day league championship meet continues on Saturday with the 1-meter competition. Prelims start at 11 am, PT, with the finals slated to begin at 4 pm, PT. The platform prelims (12:30 pm, PT) and finals (3:30 pm, PT) conclude the meet on Sunday.
