Meet Coverage: 2007 Pac-10 Men's & Women's Diving Championships
Federal Way, Wash. - Stanford diver Cassidy Krug captured the 1-meter diving title on Saturday for her second victory in the first two days of the 2007 Pac-10 Men's & Women's Diving Championships at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center. Krug, who had won Friday's 3-meter event in dominating fashion, edged a trio of UCLA divers that finished 2-3-4 on Saturday. Krug's 293.45 points were just 6.05 better than the Bruins' Marisa Samaniego. The victory was Krug's third Pac-10 title overall. She also won the conference's 1-meter event as a freshman in 2004.
"It wasn't pretty, but I got the job done," said Krug, who claimed to attempt a pair of new dives with a high difficulty. "Trying the dives I did definitely put pressure on my other dives today. There are definitely things to still work on and things I could have done better. If I dive like I did today I won't win at NCAA's, and that's the end that's the goal. I've just got to keep moving forward."
"We tried a couple of dives that no other women's diver in the world does to see if she could be ready for the NCAA's," added Stanford head diving coach Dr. Rick Schavone. "Otherwise she was fine and handled the added pressure well."
Katie Lampe reached the finals for the second consecutive day for the Cardinal, finishing sixth with 258.80 points. Shana Karp (10th, 237.90), Carmen Stellar (12th, 235.70) and Sarah Ohr (13th, 232.20) also dove in the 1-meter prelims for Stanford.
The three-day league championship meet concludes on Sunday with the platform prelims (12:30 pm, PT) and finals (3:30 pm, PT).
