No. 2 Stanford Men's Swimming Claims Early Lead At Pac-10 Swimming Championships

Second ranked Stanford men's swimming took an early lead at the first day of the Pac-10 Men's Swimming Championships in Federal Way, Wash. The Cardinal are off to a good start as they look to claim their 26th straight conference title, leading the field with 74 points, followed closely by Arizona (72), Cal (66), USC (60) and ASU (56).

Stanford began the meet with a victory in 200 medley relay as senior Hongzhe Sun, sophomore Paul Kornfeld, sophomore Jason Dunford and senior Ben Wildman-Tobriner swam to first with a time of 1:26.07. Cal finished right behind with a time of 1:26.73, and rounding out the top three was Arizona with a time of 1:27.08.

Arizona came back strong in the final event of the day, taking the top spot in the 800 free relay with a time of 6:20.08. The Cardinal once again finished in the top three with senior Andy Grant, junior Daniel Beal, sophomore Phillip Morrison and senior Shaun Phillips taking second in a time of 6:21.47. Cal once again came in right behind Stanford in third place with a 6:23.51.

The Pac-10 Championships will continue tomorrow (Thursday, February 22) at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center with prelims beginning at 11:00am (PST) and the finals at 6:00pm (PST).
