The 10th ranked University of Hawai`i Warriors came away with the win Saturday night at the Stan Sheriff Center in Honolulu, Hawaii with game scores of 30-27, 24-30, 30-24, 30-25. An impressive crowd of 4,848 watched Stanford drop to 3-25 and 2-20 for the year as the Warrior improve to 13-13 on the season and 11-11 in the MPSF.
It was Senior Night for Hawaii as they graduated four Warriors as well as a trip home for Stanford freshman Kawika Shoji.
In the first set, UH fell behind 14-11 but eventually tied the game at 15. The Warriors eventually took the lead for good at 21-20 on a Stanford attack error and held on 30-27.
Stanford came out strong in the second jumping out to a 10-6 lead and stretched it 17-11 as they tied it at a set apiece with a 30-24 win.
UH got the third game win with 30-24 score. The Cardinal were unable covert off of Hawaii's impressive blocking showcase at the net.
A Cardinal service error broke a nine all tie in the fourth allowed the Warriors to lead the rest of the way, finishing off the match with a final game score of 30-25.
Hakala led the way for UH with 21 kills and 10 digs. Matt Vanzant tallied 15 kills. Beckwith ended the night with 47 assists.
The Cardinal were led by Kawika Shoji's 23 kills while Evan Romero posted 22 and Matt Ceran 10. Groppi finished with 58 assists and Brandon Williams totaled a match-high of eight blocks.
