St. George, Utah - Senior golfer Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana shot a two-under par 69 to help lead the Stanford women's golf team to the top of the leaderboard after the first round of play at the 2007 NCAA West Regional Thursday afternoon on the Entrada at Snow Canyon Country Club. The Cardinal carded a three-over par 287 to take a four stroke lead on day one. BYU and Oklhoma State are tied for second (291). Rounding out the top five at Arizona State (294) and UC Irvine (295).
Tangtiphaiboontana is currently in second place individually after tying her season best with a two-under par 69 this afternoon. The senior collected five birdies on the day, including three on the back nine. She is only one stroke behind the leader, Oklahoma State's Pernilla Lindberg. Three players are tied for third with a one under 70.
Fellow senior Lauren Todd is tied for ninth with a one-over par 72 while teammates Mari Chun and Catherina Wang are tied for 17th at two-over 73.Freshman Angela King rounds out the Cardinal competitors tied for 68th with a 79.
The tournament will continue on Friday with another round of 18 holes and conclude on Saturday with a final round of 18. The top-eight teams will advance to the NCAA Championships, May 22-25, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
