St. George, Utah - Sophomore Mari Chun helped the Stanford women's golf team to a share of the team title at the NCAA West Regional Saturday afternoon at the Snow Canyon Country Club. The Cardinal tied Oklahoma State for first place and advance to the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship later this month. Stanford shot a 287 on the final day to bring their three round total to 874 (287-300-287).
Also advancing to the NCAA Championships are Arizona State (876), Denver (891), BYU (898), UC Irvine (898), Pepperdine (899) and New Mexico (908).
Chun led the charge for Stanford on the final day carding a two-under par 69 today. Chun tied for third overall with a one-over 214 (73-72-69). Three birdies on the back nine helped the junior with her under par score. Senior Jennifer Tangtiphaiboontana (69-79-72) tied for 10th along with teammate Catherina Wang (73-73-74) with a seven over 220. Cardinal Lauren Todd wrapped up play tied for 25th on the individual leaderboard with a 12-over 225 (72-76-77). Freshman Angela King tied for 48th after shooting a one over par 72 today to bring her three round total to 230 (79-79-72).
Oklahoma State's Pernilla Lindberg won individual medalist honors with a seven-under par 206 for the tournament.
The NCAA Championships will be held May 22-25 in Daytona Beach, Florida at the LPGA International Golf Course. Twenty-four programs from around the nation, as well as six individual qualifiers will challenge for a national title.
Tickets for competitive rounds are $10 for daily tickets and $25 for an all-tournament badge. They can be purchased at the event or by calling the Central Florida Sports Commission at 407-648-4900. Admission to the practice rounds is free.
