Stanford, Calif. - The top-ranked Stanford men's golf team shot rounds of 293 and 286 on the first day of competition at the Fighting Illini Invitational today, and currently stand fifth (+19) in the 12-team field. Seventh-ranked Oklahoma State leads after 36 holes with rounds of 292 and 275 (+7). Rounding out the top five are No. 23 Texas (+10), No. 8 Florida State (+16), and Indiana (+18).

Senior Rob Grube (71-73), freshman Sihwan Kim (73-71) and junior Dodge Kemmer (75-69) led the way for the Cardinal and are tied for 10th overall with a 4-over, 144. Sophomore Joseph Bramlett (74-74) is tied for 25th at 7-over, 147, and sophomore Jordan Cox (77-73) rounds out the Cardinal players in a tie for 45th at 10-over, 150.

Stanford was tied for sixth-place after the first round, but climbed into its current fifth position after Kemmer's team-low 69 in the second round. Only four players shot par or better in the first round at the par-70, 7,085-yard Olympia Fields north course, but play improved considerably in the second round, with nine players, including Kemmer, turning in under-par rounds.

Stanford will finish play at the tournament tomorrow, with 18 holes beginning at 7:45 a.m. (CT). Last season, Stanford finished second at the event.
