Windermere, Fla. - The eighth-ranked Stanford men's golf team shot a three-over-par 291 on the first day of the Isleworth-UCF Collegiate Invitational in Windermere, Fla., and heads into tomorrow's second round tied for ninth place in the 18-team field.
Oklahoma State, USC and host Central Florida each shot a four-under 284 and are locked in first place after the first 18 holes of the 54-hole event. Known as one of the most prestigious tournaments in collegiate golf, the current field includes 16 2007 NCAA participants, 14 top-50 teams and six members of the current top-10.
Wake Forest (-3, 285) and Florida State (-2, 286) round out the top-five, followed by Clemson (-1, 287), South Carolina (+1, 289) and SMU (+2, 290). The Cardinal is tied with East Tennessee State and Georgia for ninth place (+3, 291).
Freshman Sihwan Kim led the charge for the Cardinal in the first round, carding a one-under 71 for his fourth collegiate under-par round and stands tied for 17th place.
Sophomores Joseph Bramlett and Jordan Cox are tied for 34th with a one-over-par 73, while senior Rob Grube is tied for 47th with a two-over 74. Junior Dodge Kemmer rounds out the Cardinal players in 80th place, with a seven-over 79.
Rhys Enoch of East Tennessee State, Greg Forest of UCF and Jamie Lovemark of USC led the field with a four-under 68 in the opening round.
The teams will play 18 more holes tomorrow at the par-72, 7,449-yard Isleworth Country Club in Windermere, Fla. Play begins at 8 a.m. (ET) with the Cardinal scheduled to tee off in the final groups at approximately 9:30 a.m. (ET). The final round will be played Tuesday morning.
