STANFORD, Calif.- Improving its score for the third straight day, Stanford shot a final round 303 on Sunday afternoon to finish ninth overall at The Stanford Intercollegiate with a 65-over-par 917 (309-305-303).
After shooting an opening-round 309 on Friday, the Cardinal fired a 305 on Saturday and eventually moved up one spot from 10th overall. Stanford was led by junior Mari Chun's second top-10 finish of the year, as she carded a 4-over-par 217 (68-76-73) to tie for eighth.
In a challenging 18-team field that included 11 schools currently ranked among the nation's top-30 according to Golfweek, Arizona State shot a tournament-low 276 on the final day to claim the title with a 10-over-par 862 (293-293-276).
The Sun Devils entered Sunday's competition in second place but overtook leader Duke thanks to impressive final round efforts from Jennifer Osborn (67), Anna Nordqvist (67) and Azahara Munoz (69).
Duke's runner-up finish featured a 14-over-par 866 (282-292-292), followed by UCLA in third at 872 (291-296-285), Arkansas in fourth at 886 (299-298-289) and California in fifth at 890 (296-305-289). Defending champion Vanderbilt placed 10th overall with a 68-over-par 920 (307-306-307).
Stacy Lewis of Arkansas, who earned a share of last year's individual title with Arizona's Alison Walshe, captured individual honors with a 2-under-par 211 (69-72-70). Arizona State's Jennifer Osborn was second with a 1-under-par 212 (70-75-67) while teammates Anna Nordqvist (76-71-67) and Azahara Munoz (72-73-69) tied for third at 1-over-par 214.
Duke's Amanda Blumenherst, who held down the tournament's top spot for each of the first two days, finished at 2-over-par with a 215 (66-73-76).
Sophomore Catherina Wang posted the Cardinal's second-best score, thanks to her lowest score of the tournament with a 73 on the final day. Wang placed in a tie for 57th at 235 (80-82-73) and was 22-over-par. Also tying for 57th was freshman Rebecca Durham, who tallied rounds of 79-77-79.
One day after firing a season-best 74, junior Angela King carded an 81 and finished in a tie for 62nd at 237 (82-74-81) to go 24-over-par.
Junior Ki-Shui Liao placed 70th overall with a 26-over-par 239 (83-78-78).
Freshman Piper Miller and senior Saana Rapakko were both playing as individuals this weekend. Miller tied for 83rd with a 32-over-par 245 (78-83-84) while Rapakko tied for 89th with a 38-over-par 251 (89-86-76). Rapakko's final-round 76 was a season-low.
This weekend's tournament represents the final competition of the fall season for Stanford. The Cardinal is next in action on Feb. 11-13 with an appearance in the Northrop Grumman Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes Estates, Calif.
