Nov. 11, 2007

STANFORD, Calif. - Another perfect weekend was written into the books by the fourth-ranked Stanford men's water polo team on Sunday, as a 13-6 victory over No. 15 Santa Clara at Avery Stadium sealed wins in back-to-back days. The victory also extends Stanford's (15-6, 4-3 MPSF) season-best winning streak to six games.

Will Hindle-Katel and Sage Wright each posted hat tricks Sunday to lead the Cardinal effort, while Michael Bury and Ryan Fortune each chipped in a pair of goals.

After a tight first period of play which saw Stanford tally the only goal, the second period saw the Cardinal break things open with five goals to Santa Clara's two for a 6-2 halftime advantage.

From there, Stanford kept its momentum going with five more goals in the third period, extending the lead to 11-5 en route to the win.

Goalkeeper Sandy Hohener continued his stellar play in the cage, allowing only five goals and blocking seven shots in three periods of action. Freshman Brian Pingree blocked two shots and allowed only one goal in the fourth period.

Santa Clara (16-11) was led by a pair of goals from John Bruno, while goalkeeper Robert Callahan made six saves.

Stanford also received goals from Sam Finlayson, Ryan McCarthy, and Chris Jacobsen on Sunday.

The Cardinal return to action for its regular-season finale Friday night, Nov. 16, for the Big Splash contest against No. 1 California. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
