No. 4 Stanford Ends Weekend With 14-7 Win Over No. 13 Pacific

Nov. 4, 2007

STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 4 Stanford men's water polo team finished off a perfect weekend of action Sunday afternoon, downing the No. 13 Pacific Tigers, 14-7 in Stockton. With the win, the Cardinal earned its third win of the weekend and improves to 13-6 overall and evens its MPSF record at 3-3.

Alex Pulido and Michael Bury each posted a hat trick with three goals apiece, while Will Hindle-Katel and Drac Wigo each netted a pair of scores. The offensive outburst, along with another strong outing from goalkeeper Sandy Hohener, who made 11 saves and allowed only two goals in the first half, helped Stanford to a big 9-2 advantage by halftime.

Stanford outscored the Tigers 5-2 in the opening period, and then broke it wide open in the decisive second, scoring four unanswered goals to take the 9-2 lead. Although the Tigers managed to get to within six in the third period, Hohener and the Cardinal defense remained firm while the offense continued to score and keep Pacific from gaining any momentum.

The Cardinal will now hit the road next Saturday for a 12 p.m. MPSF contest at UC Irvine before hosting the Santa Clara Broncos at Avery Stadium at 12 p.m. next Sunday, Nov. 11.
