STANFORD, Calif.- Anthony Goods scored 22 points to lead three players in double-figures as No. 23/21 Stanford downed Concordia University 82-70 on Monday night in an exhibition game at Maples Pavilion.
Landry Fields added 17 points off the bench while Fred Washington chipped in with 10 points. The Cardinal held commanding advantages on the glass (43-24) and at the foul line, sinking 25-32 attempts while the Eagles converted on just one of their two tries from the charity stripe.
Stanford also shot 51-percent for the contest, including a 57.7-percent performance in the first half. Concordia was limited to 42-percent overall and forced out to the perimeter against a taller, physical Cardinal squad.
Taj Finger pulled down nine rebounds in 21 minutes off the bench, one of five Cardinal players to grab at least four boards.
Concordia was led by Ryan Read's 15 points while Terrence Worthy contributed 11.
Stanford raced out to a quick 13-2 edge by the 15:37 mark of the first half following a dunk from Goods. Concordia then answered back and cut the lead to 21-16 over the next six minutes.
The Cardinal responded with a 20-9 scoring run and enjoyed its biggest lead of the half at 41-26 following a free throw attempt from Finger. Stanford took a 41-30 lead into the break with Goods leading all scorers with 11 points at that point.
The Eagles crept to within six points on two different occasions in the first 10 minutes of the second half, slicing the lead to 55-49 with 11:26 remaining.
But the Cardinal scored the next 11 points and led 65-49 after Fields sank his only three-pointer of the game.
A final surge from Concordia made it a six-point game at 76-70 with just over two minutes left. However, Stanford scored the final six points of the game to ice the victory.
Statistics from Monday's game do not count toward regular season totals. Tonight's contest represents the first of two home exhibition games this year, as Stanford will also host The College of Idaho on Dec. 16.
Stanford's season opener is slated for Friday, Nov. 9, against Harvard in the first game of the Basketball Travelers Classic, a three-day tournament that will feature two games each day in a round-robin format. The Cardinal will host Northwestern State on Nov. 10 and conclude the event with UC Santa Barbara on Nov. 11.
