Stanford, Calif. - The No. 12/13 Cardinal softball team picked up its second win of the Stanford Invitational tonight, with a 5-0decision over the Missouri Tigers. Jackie Rinehart and Michelle Smith tallied two hits apiece for Stanford, and theteam improved to 6-2 overall. With just two hits to the Cardinal's nine, the Tigers fall to 4-5 on the season.
Stanford made a statement early, using a four-run first inning to jump out to a quick lead. Freshman AlissaHaber walked to lead off the inning and Rinehart moved her to second on a sacrifice bunt. Haber advanced to thirdon a passed ball and scored on a left field single by Maddy Coon. Smith continued the Cardinal rally with a singleto left field, bringing Coon around to third. Freshman Rosey Neill drilled a shot down the left field line to scoreCoon and Tricia Aggabao followed with a single to bring in Smith. Anna Beardman finished off the early scoring run for theCardinal with a single that scored Neill from third.
Stanford added one more run in the second inning. Haber and Rinehart started off the inning with a pair of singles, puttingtwo on for Smith. With two outs, the Stanford junior singled to score Haber from second.
Missy Penna posted her second shutout in the circle for the Cardinal, collecting 11 strikeouts to bring her seasontotal to 48. Coon drove in her team-leading 10th run, and finished the day with a .440 season average.
Stanford will play its third game of the Invitational tomorrow, taking on the Pacific Tigers at noon. The winner of thethe Stanford-Pacific match-up will face the loser of tomorrow's Santa Clara-Missouri match-up at 2 p.m. Theremaining two teams will face off at 4 p.m. The tournament concludes Sunday, with the championship game set for noon.
