STANFORD, Calif.- No. 1 Stanford opened its first Pac-10 road trip by edging No. 22 Arizona State 4-3 on Friday afternoon in Tempe, Ariz.
Playing its first road match of the year, the Cardinal (6-1) extended its winning streak to three with a victory over the Sun Devils (6-2).
Despite losing the doubles point, the Cardinal stormed back to win four singles matches and secure the win.
Arizona State took a 1-0 advantage on the strength of a sweep in doubles. The Sun Devils won close matches at the Nos. 2 and 3 positions while capturing a decisive 8-1 win at No. 1.
But the Cardinal turned things around with strong singles play. Senior Theresa Logar dispatched of No. 100 Sabrina Cappanolo 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 1 spot, highlighting four singles wins.
Sophomore Jessica Nguyen, junior Whitney Deason and freshman Lindsay Burdette also claimed victories in their matches.
Stanford's road trip concludes tomorrow at No. 46 Arizona. Match time is set for noon.
