Seattle, Wash. - The Stanford softball team dropped a 7-0 decision to the Washington Huskies at Husky Softball Stadium in Seattletoday, and with the loss, dropped the 2007 series to the Huskies, 2-1. Stanford gave up just five hits, but Washingtoncapitalized on six hit batters and five walks to earnthe win. Stanford drops to 31-15-1 overall and 6-9-1 in the Pac-10 with the loss, while Washington improves to33-13, 10-6 Pac-10.
Stanford held the Huskies scoreless for three innings, but a fourth inning grand slam by Ashley Chartersput an end to Missy Penna's shutout. Two hit batters and a single by Ashlyn Watson loaded the bases for the Huskyshortstop, who slammed a ball over the center field wall.
Washington added three more runs in the fifth inning. Two more hit batters and a walk loaded the bases, and Watsonput one across with an infield grounder. A single up the middle by Alicia Matthews scored another run, beforeanother hit batter walked a seventh Husky run in.
Stanford had three hits in the game to the Huskies' five. Tricia Aggabao extended her hitting streak to six gameswith a fifth inning single,and Alissa Haber and Anna Beardman accounted for the other Cardinal hits.
Stanford returns to action tomorrow in Los Angeles, meeting the UCLA Bruins in a 2 p.m. contest at Easton Stadium.
