CHICAGO, Ill. - The Stanford Men's Gymnastics squad kicked off the 2008 season tonight with an impressive win at the Windy City Invitational in Chicago, IL. The Cardinal tallied a total score of 354.450, 7.100 points more than second place finisher Illinois (347.350). Also competing were Michigan, Ohio State, Minnesota, host UIC, and Iowa.
In five of the six events, Stanford had at least two gymnasts find themselves among the top five placers.
Senior David Sender led the way for Stanford with wins in rings (15.350) and horizontal bar (14.950), and also second place finishes in floor exercise (15.450) and vault (16.350). Sender decidedly won the all around with a 89.600, 6.750 points ahead of UIC's second place finisher Neal Thompson.
Joining Sender in the top finishers in horizontal bar was redshirt junior Sho Nakamori, who captured second place with a 14.500. Nakamori also tied for second in parallel bars (14.750) with junior Bryant Hadden.
Hadden contributed a strong performance to the team as well, placing third in rings (14.700), tying for third in pommel horse(14.550), along with his second place tie in parallel bars with Nakamori.
The Cardinal will next face the Bears of UC-Berkeley on January 18 at 7:30 p.m. at Haas Pavilion.
