Stanford completed the first round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday with a 19-over-par 303 to sit in 11th place. Stanford sits 16 shots off the leader Arizona State who shot a collective 3-over-par 287.
The top of the leaderboard is crowded with four teams sitting just one stroke back of the Sun Devils. Arizona, Oklahoma State, Duke, and UCLA all shot a 4-over-par 304, just one stroke off the lead.
Stanford was led by junior Mari Chun who played outstanding golf to shoot a 2-under-par 69 for sole possession of second place. Chun currently sits just one stroke off the individual first round leader, Amanda Blumenhurst of Duke.
Shooting rounds of 6-over-par 77 were sophomore Angela King and freshman Piper Miller. King made three birdies, while Miller made two, but when their up and down rounds concluded they sat in a tie for 50th place.
Freshman Rebecca Durham shot a 9-over-par 80 for the day and sits in a tie for 73rd.
Stanford's final golfer was junior Ki-Shui Liao who shot an 11-over-par 82 Monday. Her round puts her in a tie for 79th place.
Stanford will be back on the course tomorrow for the second round of the Arizona Wildcat Invitational. Chun will look to put herself in position for medalist honors and the Cardinal will look to move up the team leaderboard.
