NCAA Tournament Sweet 16
South Regional
Houston, Texas

Stanford wraps up the year at 28-8 overall. The 28 victories rank third-best in school history, matching the 1941-42 squad that finished 28-4 en route to capturing the NCAA championship. The program record for wins is 31, established during the 2000-01 campaign.

Making its 16th appearance in the NCAA Tournament, Stanford now owns a record of 21-15. Stanford advanced to the Sweet 16 for the first time since an Elite Eight appearance in 2001. The Cardinal claimed the 1942 NCAA title, reached the Final Four in 1998 and also moved on to the Sweet 16 in 1997.

Brook Lopez notched his ninth double-double of the year, tallying 26 points and 10 rebounds in 33 minutes. For the year, Lopez averaged 19.3 points and 8.2 rebounds per game while shooting 46.8-percent from the field and 78.9-percent from the foul line in 27 games. He scored in double-figures 25 times and led the team in scoring on 20 different occasions.

In four career NCAA Tournament games, Brook Lopez has made 29-59 (49.1-percent) from the field while averaging 19.5 points and 5.8 rebounds per contest.

Stanford hauled down at least 40 rebounds in a game for the 17th time this year. The Cardinal averaged 39.1 rebounds on the season, holding a +7.8 rebounding margin over its opponents.

Landry Fields scored in double-figures for the second time this year (16 against Northwestern on Nov. 15). Fields was 3-6 from the field, 2-4 from beyond the arc and 3-4 from the charity stripe in 14 minutes off the bench. Fields ended the year averaging 4.1 points per game in 33 contests as a reserve.

Mitch Johnson dished out eight assists against Texas to bring his season total to 188. That ranks as the fourth-best single-season total in school history. Johnson now has 389 assists for his career after passing Arthur Lee (382) to move into seventh place on the all-time list. Johnson registered at least five points, five rebounds and five assists in the same game for the eighth time this year.

For only the fifth time this year and first since Jan. 17 against Arizona, Robin Lopez did not register a blocked shot. Lopez ended the year with 83 swats, two shy of the single-season record of 85 established by Curtis Borchardt (2001-02). Lopez has 156 blocks in his career, ranking second only to Tim Young (167) in that category.

Texas held a 40-30 points in the paint edge.

Friday's contest marked the final game in a Cardinal uniform for seniors Taj Finger, Peter Prowitt and Fred Washington, and junior Kenny Brown (attending Baylor College of Dentistry in the fall).

Head coach Trent Johnson now sports a 159-122 career record and an 80-48 mark during his four years on The Farm. Johnson is now 4-4 in four NCAA Tournament appearances. Stanford's 28 wins are the most for a Johnson-coached team, surpassing his final season at Nevada in 2003-04 when he guided the Wolf Pack to a 25-9 record.

A different player has led Stanford in scoring for the sixth straight year.
