Cardinal Stands In Third After Opening Day At Peg Barnard

STANFORD, Calif.- Stanford stands in third place, shooting a 300 (+16) during the opening round of play at the Peg Barnard Invitational. California leads the field with a 295 (+11), followed by Washington at 297 (+13).

Stanford was led by junior Mari Chun who is one stroke off the lead after shooting a round of 1-over-par 72. She is tied for second with three other golfers. Karinn Dickinson of Washington is the first round leader after shooting an even-par round of 71.

Also playing well for Stanford was sophomore Angela King who fired a round of 2-over-par 73 and stands in a tie for sixth.

In a tie for 20th is freshman Rebecca Durham who shot a 6-over-par round of 77.

Rounding out the scoring golfers for Stanford were sophomore Catherina Wang and freshman Piper Miller who both shot a 7-over-par 78 on Friday to tie for 28th.

Playing as individuals for Stanford were junior Ki-Shui Liao and senior Saana Rapakko. Liao shot an 8-over-par round of 79 to tie for 33rd, while Rapakko shot a 10-over-par round of 81 to tie for 47th.

The Cardinal will be back at the Stanford Golf Course tomorrow for the completion of the Peg Barnard Invitational. Stanford will be looking to make up the strokes lost today in their attempt to win the tournament for the second consecutive year.
