Lincoln, Calif.- After the first day of the NCAA West Regional from Lincoln Hills Golf Club, Stanford sits in a logjam in sixth place. The Cardinal need to finish in the top-eight to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
USC leads after day-one with a 5-under-par score of 283. The Trojans entered the tournament as the top seed after winning last week's Pac-10 Championship.
Tulsa is the only other team under par after shooting a 1-under-par 287 and sits in second place.
The rest of the top-5 consists of UNLV after shooting an even-par round of 288, Arkansas who shot a 3-over-par round of 291, and Oklahoma State who shot a 5-over-par round of 293.
The tie for sixth consists of the Cardinal and three other teams at 7-over-par 295. These teams include BYU, Michigan State, and California.
Thursday the Cardinal were led by Rebecca Durham who shot an even-par round of 72. Durham is tied for 18th place, trailing the leaders by four strokes.
Paola Moreno of USC and Alison Walshe of Arizona lead the tournament after shooting matching 68's on Thursday.
Also playing well for Stanford was Angela King who shot a 1-over-par 73. King is currently tied for 25th.
The other scoring golfers for Stanford were Mari Chun and Catherina Wang who both shot rounds of 3-over-par 75. The Cardinal duo is tied for 47th.
The final Stanford golfer was Piper Miller who shot a 9-over-par round of 81 and sits in 99th place.
Stanford will be back on the course tomorrow for the second of three rounds of the NCAA West Regional. The Cardinal will look to stay among the top-8 teams to secure their trip to the NCAA Championships.
