Lincoln, Calif.- Stanford played well on Friday and currently sits in seventh place with a second round score of 10-over-par round of 298. Their two-day total of 17-over-par 593 leaves them three strokes clear of ninth place, a finish that would mean the end of their season. Instead, through two of three rounds the Cardinal have put themselves in position to finish in the top-8 and qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Stanford was led on Friday by Angela King and Catherina Wang who shot a pair of 1-over-par 73's. For King it was her second straight 73 and she now sits in a tie for 13th with a two-day score of 2-over-par 146. Wang has a two-day total of 4-over-par 148 and sits in a tie for 27th.
Also playing well for the second consecutive day was freshman Rebecca Durham who fired a two-over-par 74. Durham's round leaves her in the tie for 13th overall with her two-day total of 2-over-par 146. Durham is looking for just her second top-10 finish of the season at the all-important NCAA West Regional.
Stanford's returning All-American Mari Chun struggled to a 6-over-par 78 on Friday. Chun now sits in a tie for 68th with a score of 9-over-par 153.
The final Stanford golfer was Piper Miller who shot a 10-over-par 82. Miller now sits in a tie for 102nd with a two-day score of 19-over-par 163.
The individual lead at the NCAA West Regional was taken over by Therese Koelbaek of UNLV. She fired a second round score of 4-under-par 68 to move into the lead with a two-day total of 7-under-par 137. Her superb round on Friday has given her a three stroke lead.
USC remained the overall leader after an even-par 288 on Friday. The Trojans two-day total of 5-under-par 571 gives them a seven stroke lead over second place UNLV heading into tomorrow's final round.
The final round from Lincoln Hills Golf Club on Saturday will determine which eight teams will make the trip to Albequerque, N.M. for the NCAA Championships. The Cardinal are looking for their 20th straight trip to the NCAA's.
