Cardinal Finish Third At Stanford Intercollegiate

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford women's golf completed their home tournament on Sunday, placing third at the Stanford Intercollegiate. The Cardinal rallied on Sunday to move from a tie for fourth up to third. For the day, the Cardinal were 2-over-par to finish the three rounds with a score of 5-over-par 857.

UCLA took the team title with a score of 8-under-par 844. The Bruins fought back from some early struggles to overcome USC who had overtaken the Bruins early in the day. The Women of Troy settled for second with a score of 5-under-par 847.

The Cardinal did well to finish third with the national caliber field assembled at the Stanford Intercollegiate. Stanford was able to knock of No. 5 Oklahoma State who finished fourth, No. 9 Duke who finished fifth and No. 6 Vanderbilt who finished sixth. Wins over three top-10 teams should go a long way to improving Stanford's No. 19 national ranking.

Leading the way for the Cardinal was Rebecca Durham who posted her second top-10 finish of the season after a round of 1-under-par 70 on Sunday. Durham finished the tournament at 1-under par and in a tie for ninth.

Placing in a tie for 14th were Sydney Burlison and Mari Chun who both finished with a score of 2-under-par 215. Burlison posted the low round of the tournament for Stanford on Sunday when she shot a 3-under-par 68. Burlison made six final round birdies to climb up the leader board.

After opening with two good rounds, Angela King struggled to a 6-over-par 77 on Sunday. King who entered the day tied for ninth, fell to a tie for 29th with a three-round total of 5-over-par 218.

The final golfer for Stanford was Lila Barton who played her best golf of the tournament on Sunday, firing a 3-over-par 74. Barton tied for 66th with a three-round total of 14-over-par 227.

Playing as individuals for Stanford were Ki-Shui Liao and Piper Miller. Liao finished with a score of 23-over-par 236 to tie for 81st after a 76 on Sunday. Miller finished with a 78 to end up 26-over-par and tied for 88th.

Lizette Salas of USC took the individual medalist honors after finishing 7-under-par for the tournament. Salas fired a 3-under-par 68 on Sunday to overtake Caroline Masson of Oklahoma State who ended up two strokes back.

The Cardinal will now prepare for their final fall tournament when they travel to Kapolei, Hawai'i on Oct. 26-28 to compete in the Kent Youel Invitational, hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
