Chun Leads Stanford To Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational Title

Sammamish, Wash. - Stanford captured its first tournament win of the season at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitaional on Wednesday. The Cardinal extended their second-round lead after shooting a third-round of 11-over-par 299 to finish with a score of 41-over-par 905.

Stanford bettered second-place Oregon by 16 strokes and third-place Washington by 17. In all, Stanford bettered 12 opponents, including five Pac-10 schools.

Mari Chun led the Cardinal after taking the individual medalist honor. Chun took over the lead early on Wednesday when she made three birdies on the front nine to go out in 33. From there, she cruised to her first individual tournament victory since 2006, when she won the same tournament.

For the tournament, Chun finished with a score of 2-over-par 218. She bettered second-place, Kayla Mortellaro of Idaho by four strokes.

Also playing well for Stanford was Rebecca Durham who finished tied for 10th with a three-day total of 12-over-par 228. For Durham it was her second career top-10 and first since last season when she finished seventh at the Peg Barnard Invitational.

Stanford freshmen, Lila Barton and Sydney Burlison both finished in a tie for 22nd after shooting identical round of 4-over-par 76 on Wednesday.

Rounding out the squad for Stanford was Angela King who fired a final round of 12-over-par 84. King finished in a tie for 31st with a three-day total of 21-over-par 237.

The tournament victory was the first for Stanford since the 2006 Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational. They will look to build on their result on Fri.-Sun., Oct. 17-19 at the Stanford Invitational. The Cardinal will host some of the top competition from around the nation at the Stanford Golf Course.
