No. 9 Stanford Falls to No. 1 BYU in Five

Final Stats

Stanford men's volleyball played tight with top-ranked BYU, but fell in five games (30-28, 28-30, 30-18, 27-30, 15-12) in one of the better efforts of the season. The Cardinal played admirably to the top-ranked team in the nation, but a late effort in the fifth and deciding game sealed the Cougar victory.

Freshman Spencer McLachlin recorded 18 kills in the loss, and hit .405 on the evening. Senior Matt Ceran also recorded 18 kills and hit .263 on the night. Sophomore Kawika Shoji recorded 42 assists to lead the squad and also recorded five digs on the night.

BYU was led by Russell Holmes, who recorded 19 kills on the evening. Setter Brian Congelliere recorded 63 assists on the evening.

The Cardinal will play BYU again tomorrow Feb. 23 at 7:00 p.m in Provo, UT at Smith Fieldhouse.
