Stanford synchronized swimming got off to a fast start at the United States National Championships. The Cardinal have already captured the National Collegiate title and are now after the U.S. National title that includes both collegiate and club teams.
Competing in her final meet for Stanford, Sara Lowe led the Cardinal. Lowe finished first in the free swim portion of the solo competition with a score of 94.833. This score will be combined with the score in the technical portion of the solo competition tomorrow to qualify for the finals on Saturday.
Also competing in the solo competition for Stanford was Gayle Lee who finished 12th with a score of 87.333.
Lowe teamed with Courtenay Stewart in the duet competition to also hold the lead after day one with a score of 95.500.
Also faring well in duets were Poppy Carlig and Melissa Knight who sit in fifth after posting a score of 91.000.
Sitting in a tie for sixth in duets are Debbie Chen and Taylor Durand with a score of 90.500.
In the team competition Stanford sits in a tie for second in a very close competition. The Cardinal posted a score of 95.167 to tie with the Santa Clara Aquamaids Club Team. Ohio State leads with a score of 95.333.
The Cardinal team of Lowe, Stewart, Carlig, Knight, Chen, Durand, Erin Bell and Corinne Smith lost to Ohio State at Collegiate Nationals and are looking to reverse that.
Friday will be the same schedule, but the technical portion of the events will be contested. The top eight in each event will advance to Saturday's final.
