PRINCETON, N.J. - Another pair of hat tricks from Janson Wigo helped No. 3 Stanford to a pair of victories Sunday that completed the Cardinal's perfect 5-0 run at the Princeton Tournament. Wigo's fourth and fifth straight three-goal performances to start the 2008 season paced wins of 18-5 over Bucknell and 13-4 over Brown to wrap up the Cardinal's East Coast road trip.
Joining Wigo in leading the team with six goals Sunday was Sage Wright, who turned in his second four-goal game of the tournament in the victory over Brown. Jeffrey Schwimer netted his first hat trick of the season in the morning win over Bucknell, while Alex Pulido, Peter Sefton and Will Smith all scored three goals on the day as well. Andrew Drake scored twice, and individual goals were turned in by Chris Jacobson, Ryan McCarthy, Cody Wiesen, Drac Wigo and Steven Wright.
Jimmie Sandman and Brian Pingree again shared duties in the cage Sunday. Sandman started and played the first half in the morning, stopping three Bucknell shots while Pingree came on to start the second half and made five saves. In the afternoon, Pingree started and went the distance, making seven saves in the win over Brown.
The victories also punctuated a dominating effort on both ends of the tank by Stanford, as the Cardinal offense scored 74 goals over the five tournament games, and the defense limited the opposition to just 20 goals over the weekend.
In the morning game, Stanford bulldozed its way to six goals in the opening period on the way to what would be an insurmountable 11-1 halftime lead over Bucknell. Five more Cardinal goals in the third period would put the Bison deeper into its hole, and two more goals in the final period added the final touches to the 18-5 win.
Against the Brown Bears in its tournament finale, Stanford got off to yet another of its fast starts, putting the Bears in an early hole. Eight different players scored in the contest, led by Wright's four goals and Janson Wigo's three.
Stanford returns home for Friday's home opener, set for a 6 p.m. start against the U.S. Air Force Academy.
