Landry Fields makes the second free throw to draw Stanford within 74-71. UCLA inbounds the ball to Alfred Aboya, who is immediately fouled, with 0:01.7 left.

He makes the front-end of the one-and-one to effectively put the game out of reach. He also hits the second. Drew Shiller's court-length inbounds pass is intercepted and the game is over.

Second half (0:02.6): UCLA 74, Stanford 70

Alfred Aboya is on the line for his second free throw. He makes it. It's a two-possesion game.

Stanford can't get off a good shot. By the time Landry Fields tries a putback, he's fouled, but with only two seconds left. He misses the first. Stanford calls a timeout.

Second half (0:14 left): UCLA 73, Stanford 70

Anthony Goods is at the line and makes one of two free throws to draw Stanford within 72-70.

UCLA's Darren Collison evades pressure and founds Alfred Aboya under the basket. He attempts a vicious slam ... and misses. But Stanford is called for the foul.

Aboya makes the first free throw and Stanford calls a timeout.

Second half (0:41 left): UCLA 72, Stanford 69

Stanford applies full-court pressure and aggressive defense. UCLA's Nikola Dragovic misses, and Stanford gets the rebound, but Landry Fields is called for a foul for grabbing some UCLA jersey on the rebound.

Alfred Aboya misses the one-and-one and Stanford gets the rebound with under a minute left. Anthony Goods is fouled on a drive by Dragovic, his fifth, with 41 seconds left.

Second half (1:45 left): UCLA 72, Stanford 69

If Stanford is going to a run it has to start now. Anthony Goods works a double-clutch on a baseline drive to perfection, but Alfred Aboya gets a tip-in for UCLA.

Josh Owens scores on a two-handed slam and Stanford is within 72-67 with 2:20 left. On defense, Stanford gets a stop, forcing an airball from Nikola Dragovic, which allows the shot clock to expire.

Landry Fields somehow draws a foul from Josh Shipp and goes to the line for two shots with 1:45 left. He makes the first and the second to bring Stanford into a one-possession game.

Second half (3:37 left): UCLA 69, Stanford 63

A hook from Josh Owens brings Stanford within a basket. He now has 12 points.

UCLA gets the ball inside and scores.

Jrue Holliday, working against Brown, beats a double team with a high bank shot and UCLA is up 67-61 and forces a turnover with Josh Shipp converting with a putback.

Stanford is in danger, trailing 69-61. But Brown takes a pass from Lawrence Hill for a layin, keeping the Cardinal alive with under four minutes left.

Second half (7:13 left): UCLA 63, Stanford 58

Darren Collison hits a runner in the paint for a 61-57 UCLA lead, but Landry Fields is fouled for Stanford. He makes the first, but misses the second and the 6-foot-2 Brown skies over the 6-9 Nikola Dragovic for the offensive rebound. It goes for naught, however, with a miss.

Dragovic hits from the baseline and now UCLA leads, 63-58.

Second half (9:14 left): UCLA 59, Stanford 57

Stanford works a nice inbounds play to Anthony Goods in the corner, but the shot is short and UCLA answers with a three from Josh Shipp, who has 19 points and has made 7-of-9 from the field.

UCLA freshman standout Jrue Holliday commits his fourth foul and leaves the game with 10:45 left. Josh Owens works the block and scores around Alfred Aboya.

Darren Collison is pressured into a long-range miss, but Aboya is alone in the paint to convert an easy put-back for a 59-54 UCLA lead.

Kenny Brown, the future dentist, drains and three and it seems like Stanford has new life.

Second half (11:27 left): UCLA 54, Stanford 52

Lawrence Hill comes to the line after a timeout and hits three foul shots, his reward for being fouled in three-point land, to tie it up, 48-48.

Stanford nabs the offensive rebound and the ball is pushed quickly forward to Anthony Goods, who is fouled. He makes both and Stanford regains the lead, 50-48.

San Jose's Drew Gordon ties the score for UCLA.

This time, Nikola Dragovic gives UCLA a 51-50 lead by making the second of two foul shots. Stanford's Kenny Brown dribbles the ball off his leg for a Stanford turnover.

A defensive stop follow and Anthony Goods takes a step-back jumper for a 52-51 lead, only for Dragovic to hit a three for a 54-52 lead.

A good defensive effort forces an awkward shot by UCLA's Darren Collison and Stanford regains possession.

Second half (15:28): UCLA 48, Stanford 45

Josh Shipp drains a three after a Stanford turnover led to a fastbreak and now the game seems in danger of getting away from Stanford. But Josh Owens slows the momentum with a basket and the Cardinal forces a turnover.

It's 46-42 UCLA.

Again, UCLA converges on Stanford in the lane, but the Bruins can't convert and Anthony Goods pushes the pace, is fouled on a layup and converts the three-point play to draw the Cardinal within, 46-45.

UCLA misses from the outside, but Johnson's shot knuckles into the crowd, which is howling for a foul.

At the other end, Josh Owens comes underneath the basket from the weakside to block a shot for Stanford, but can't prevent Darren Collinson from scoring down low on the Bruins' next trip down the floor.

Second half (18:22 left): UCLA 43, Stanford 40

Stanford begins the second half with an airball and Josh Shipp gives UCLA the lead with a 12-footer with 19:25 left, and it's 39-38 Bruins.

Landry Fields gives Stanford the lead with a pair of free throws, but UCLA immediately re-takes the lead on Alfred Aboya's layup. There have been nine lead changes in the game.

But after a bad miss by Stanford's Mitch Johnson, UCLA's Aboya converts a nice pass from Shipp and UCLA has its biggest lead, 43-40.

Halftime: Stanford 38, UCLA 37

Josh Shipp is at the line for UCLA and hits two foul shots, giving him a game-high 11 points so far.

At the other end, Landry Fields fights to get inside, misses, and gets his own rebound, but misses again and three Bruins are around the ball to gather the rebound.

A steal by Shipp forces a foul by Fields to prevent a breakaway. After going 10-for-11 to start the game, Stanford has made only four of its past 16 floor shots.

In calling a charging foul on Jeremy Green, the official accidentally elbows Lawrence Hill in the face. No matter, the game goes on, this time with UCLA down only 35-33.

Shipp hits a contested jumper from the perimeter and the game is tied, 35-35.

Another offensive foul, this one by Goods as he drove to basket before dishing off, and it leads to a shot bank shot by Drew Gordon and UCLA has its first lead, at 37-35, with 45 seconds left in the half.

Stanford has gone nearly four minutes without a point, while UCLA is on an 8-0 run.

Shiller ends the streak with a three from the corner, with the 6-foot-9 Gordon jumping out at him. The basket, off an Anthony Goods assist, allows Stanford to reach the half with the lead.

Stanford's leading scorer is Fields, with nine. Goods has eight.

First half (3:51 left): Stanford 35, UCLA 29

Josh Shipp hits a three and UCLA cuts the deficit to 33-29.

Drew Shiller comes in at point guard and works a give-and-go with Landry Fields for a layup and a 35-29 lead.

First half (5:03): Stanford 33, UCLA 26

Landry Fields tips in a Lawrence Hill miss to put the Cardinal back up 31-23, but Jrue Holliday swishes a three from the right wing and the margin is 31-26.

Fields hits a fadeaway and Stanford continues to hold the Bruins off. But the true test will come later.

First half (6:43 left): Stanford 29, UCLA 23

Freshman center Jack Trotter is getting significant playing time in the early going at center for Stanford. The Cardinal is playing a zone, but Michael Roll beats the zone with a three.

On the other end Trotter commits a foul on UCLA freshman Drew Gordon, a high school standout at nearby Archibishop Mitty in San Jose, and is removed with his second foul.

The game is slowing a bit and UCLA's half-court game could start to force itself upon the Cardinal. Nikola Dragovic makes two free throws to cut the deficit to 26-17. After a Stanford miss, that is indeed the case, with UCLA's Josh Shipp carving through the paint for a layup.

The Cardinal shooting is starting to go cold, and UCLA has closed to within 26-21.

Kenny Brown ends the UCLA run at 9-0 when he hits a three from the left side. But Stanford continues to rely on shots from the outside, while UCLA closes in.

First half (11:53 left): Stanford 24, UCLA 12

A Stanford shot is blocked, ending the Cardinal's perfect shooting, but the hot shooting continues.

Landry Fields hits from the corner and Stanford is 8-for-9 from the field. After a UCLA bucket by Darren Collison, it's Cardinal 19-10.

A baby hook from Josh Owens, and a three-pointer by Goods makes it 24-10 and a team 10-for-11 from the field.

UCLA is 5-for-9.

First half (14:33): Stanford 17, UCLA 9

Stanford makes it 7-for-7 from the field with a basket from Anthony Goods.

First half (15:40 left): Stanford 15, UCLA 8

Stanford got off to a strong start with a game-opening dunk and lay-in from Josh Owens, and three-point basket from Anthony Goods to take a 7-6 lead.

Lawrence Hill delivered a jumper from the foul line to increase the lead, and Lawrence Hill and Landry Fields followed soon after with threes. So far, Stanford hasn't missed - a perfect 6-for-6 from the field.

Pregame

Stanford enters Thursday night's at 15-10 overall and 4-10 in Pac-10 play. UCLA comes into Maples Pavilion at 20-7 and 9-5.

Besides basketball, the game features an appearance by Condoleeza Rice, the former Secretary of State who returns to the Stanford faculty. She will be interviewed at halftime by John Platz on KTRB-AM 860.
