Palos Verdes, Calif. - No. 21 Stanford women's golf battled rough conditions all day to struggle to a 13th place finish on day one of the Norman Grumman Regional Challenge. The Cardinal and the rest of the field fought high winds and rain as no team in the field finished within 20 strokes of par.
Stanford shot a round of 44-over-par 328 to sit 23 strokes behind first-round leader No. 3 Arizona State who fired a score of 21 over par 305. No. 2 USC at 29-over-par and No. 1 UCLA at 30-over-par sit in second and third, respectively.
The Cardinal were led by Piper Miller, who shot a round of 9-over-par 80 on Monday. Miller sits in a tie for 27th place, 10 strokes of the leader Juliana Murcia of Arizona State who was the lone golfer under par with a 1-under round of 70.
One stroke back of her teammate is Rebecca Durham in a tie for 36th. Durham fired a round of 10-over-par 81.
The other two scoring golfers for Stanford were Ki-Shui Liao who shot a score of 11-over-par 82 and Mari Chun who finished a round of 14-over-par 85. Liao sits in a tie for 45th, while Chun is tied for 65th.
Rounding out the Stanford golfers was Lila Barton who is tied for 81st after a 18-over-par round of 89.
Stanford will be back on the course tomorrow morning when they compete in round two of the Norman Grumman Regional Challenge. The Cardinal will hope for improved weather as they look to climb up the leaderboard.
