STANFORD, Calif. - Evan Romero, a junior opposite hitter from Miami Lakes, Fla., earned the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation's co-Player of the Week honor for his play in Stanford's men's volleyball victories over No. 2 Cal State Northridge and No. 12 UC Santa Barbara last weekend.

Romero surpassed the Stanford career record for kills in the rally-scoring era (since 2001) with a 17-kill performance (.302, 6 blocks) in a four-set upset of Cal State Northridge on Friday at Maples Pavilion.

Romero followed with 19 kills (.359) in a four-set victory over UC Santa Barbara, to complete a weekend sweep and extend Stanford's conference winning streak to five, and its Maples winning streak to nine.

Going into the weekend, Romero needed six kills to break Curt Toppel's mark of 1,143. Romero got it on a shot to the deep right corner to tie the second set at 22-22. Romero now has 1,174 heading into Tuesday night's match against visiting Pacific.
