Stanford Wins NCAA West Regional

Stanford, Calif. - Stanford fencing won the NCAA West Regional on Saturday by capturing five of the six events. The five winners will automatically qualify for the NCAA Championships, while the Cardinal will have to wait for the announcement on Tuesday to see who was selected as an at-large bid.

The women won all three weapons, led by two-time All-American Eva Jellison. Jellison captured the sabre competition. The other winners were Jessica Wacker in the foil and Kersten Schnurle in the epee.

Also performing well was Ashley Titan who finished second to Schnurle in the women's epee.

The men were led by wins from Alex Khoshnevissan in the foil and Lucas Janson in the sabre. Kevin Mo also had an excellent result, finishing second in epee, while Clayton Kenney finished fourth after losing to Mo.

The Cardinal will next compete at the NCAA Championships from March 19-22. Stanford will wait to hear the announcement on Tuesday to see how many fencers will be traveling to Penn State, the site of nationals.
