STANFORD, Calif. - No. 5 Stanford men's rowing will host some of the nation's finest crews at Redwood Shores this weekend for the Stanford Invitational. Racing is set to begin with dual races starting at 6 p.m. Friday night, April 17, and concluding Sunday, April 19.
The Cardinal varsity eight will lead things off at 6 p.m. Friday evening as it takes on No. 3 Washington's varsity eight. Stanford's second eight will match up against the Huskies at 6:20 p.m. while the Cardinal Freshmen will get their crack at UW's frosh boat at 6:40 p.m.
Crews from No. 2 Wisconsin and No. 13 Oregon State will also go head-to-head in a trio of races Friday night.
The action continues Saturday as the three Cardinal boats match up against Oregon State beginning at 9:30 a.m., while Wisconsin and Washington go head-to-head to round things out. The day will conclude with crews from Santa Clara and UC Davis battling it out at 10:30 and 10:40 a.m.
Sunday, the Cardinal crews will get their chance against the second-ranked Badgers at 9:30 a.m. Top-ranked California will join the draw to face off against Oregon State and UC Davis, as well.
"This weekend will allow the best of the West to race the defending national champion, Wisconsin," said Stanford Director of Rowing and men's head coach Craig Amerkhanian. "We are all excited to be a part of this exclusive field. The results will parlay into great training as we approach the championship season in Pac-10s and the IRA Regatta."
