Glielmi Named CGA National Coach of the Year

April 21, 2009

STANFORD, Calif. - Stanford men's gymnastics coach Thom Glielmi was named the College Gymnastics Association's (CGA) National Coach of the Year this past weekend at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships. Glielmi helped lead his team to the program's fourth national title on Friday, April 17.

Also, Cardinal assistant coach J.D. Reive was honored as the National Assistant Coach of the Year and Glielmi earned West Region Coach of the Year honors along with his national distinction.

Glielmi, who led the Cardinal to a 21-4 record against NCAA opponents this season, joins former head coach Sadao Hamada as the only men's gymnastics coaches in Stanford history to win the award. Hamada earned it three times in 1992, '93, and '95 (all three of which were Cardinal NCAA Championship seasons).

This marks the third time that Glielmi has been named the West Regional Coach of the Year, earning prior distinctions in 2006 and '07.

Reive's Assistant Coach of the Year award is the second in his career, having previously earning the honor in 2006.
