Saturday's Pairings and Tee Times
Stanford, Calif. - While the sun was shining, windy conditions made for difficult play on the first day of the Pac-10 Women's Golf Championships from the Stanford Golf Course. Going out early Stanford finished in sixth place with a score of 18-over-par 302 to sit 11 strokes off the leader, UCLA.
The Bruins finished with a score of 7-over-par 291 to hold a slim one stroke margin over second-place USC. Arizona State sits in third at 9-over-par, while Arizona and California are tied for fourth at 14-over-par.
Stanford senior Mari Chun led the Cardinal with a consistent round of 1-over-par 72. Chun sits in a tie for fourth place, two strokes off the lead. Chun made two birdies and three bogeys to remain in the middle of the chase for the individual medalist honor.
Jennifer Song of USC and Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State are tied for the first-round lead after firing rounds of 1-under-par 70. Maria Jose Uribe is alone in third with an even-par round of 71 before the tie for fourth that includes Chun and four others.
Also playing well for Stanford was Rebecca Durham who sits in a tie for 21st after the first round. Durham carded a front nine of 38 and a back nine of 37 on her way to a 4-over-par 75.
With a round of 6-over-par 77, Lila Barton sits in a tie for 30th. Barton made a pair of double-bogeys on the back before closing with three pars and a birdie to move back up the leaderboard.
After struggling early, Angela King played the back nine in 1-over-par 37 to card a round of 7-over-par 78. She sits in a tie for 33rd.
Finally, Sydney Burlison is tied for 41st after a round of 10-over-par 81. Burlison played her last five holes in 1-under to show what she might be capable of the rest of the tournament.
The Cardinal will be back on the course tomorrow when they tee off first at 8:30 am. Stanford will play with Cal for the second straight day. The Cardinal will look to post some low numbers early, with the leading teams following with later starting times.
