STANFORD, Calif. - No. 4 Harvard squash team topped No. 6 Stanford, 8-1, in a road contest Friday evening. With the win, the Crimson improves to 5-0, while the Cardinal falls to 2-6.
With the teams using a three-court system, Harvard claimed the first six matches on the night to take an insurmountable lead. Alisha Mashruwala opened the action by earning a 3-0 decision over Cecilia Haig at the No. 3 position by margins of 9-2, 9-3, 9-4. At the No. 6 slot, captain Johanna Snyder followed suit with a 3-0 victory against Kyla Sherwood, as Snyder won by scores of 9-1, 9-0, 9-3. Sandra Mumanachit then retired Stanford's Pamela Sherwood at No. 9, 3-0, winning 9-2, 9-3, 9-5.
At the No. 2, Nirasha Guruge won in three sets against Samantha Buechner (9-1, 9-2, 9-5), and Katherine O'Donnell took a 3-0 victory at the No. 5 position, as she outscored Aditi Maliwal 9-1, 9-0, 9-6.
Alexandra Zindman had a closely contested match at No. 8, winning 3-1 over Shannon Harrington. Zindman claimed the first two games by identical 9-2 scores before Harrington won the third, 10-8. In the fourth set, Zindman clinched her victory by taking the game by a margin of 9-6.
At the No. 4 slot, Emily Park battled through a 1-1 tie against Kathryn Corelli after two games before earning a 3-1 decision (9-3, 7-9, 9-3, 9-1). Harvard won its eighth match of the night when Bethan Williams took down Leah Stork by a 3-0 score (9-3, 9-3, 9-1). The Crimson's lone loss of the day came at the No. 1 slot, as June Tiong was forced to retire from the match due to injury.
The Cardinal will next compete when they make a weekend trip to the East Coast on Jan. 30 - Feb. 1 to face Williams College, Brown University and Dartmouth College.
