Stanford Intercollegiate Underway From The Stanford Golf Course

Stanford, Calif. - On a perfect sunny day at the Stanford Golf Course the Stanford Intercollegiate got underway with the Cardinal sitting in 12th place. The Stanford women shot a combined round of 17-over-par 301 and are currently 28 shots back of first round leader Arizona State.

The Sun Devils shot an impressive round of 11-under-par 273 to claim an early four stroke lead. UCLA occupies second place after firing a round of 7-under-par 277 and Texas is third with a round of 5-under-par 279.

Madison Pressell of Texas holds the overall lead after a round of 6-under-par 65, where she made seven birdies and just one bogey. She holds a one stroke lead over Marina Alex of Vanderbilt and Caroline Hedwall of Oklahoma State.

Angela King led Stanford with an even par round of 71. King currently sits in a tie for 18th-place. The Stanford senior played a consistent round with one birdie and one bogey.

Also playing well for Stanford was freshman Kristina Wong who is tied for 34th after round one. Wong played a round over 2-over-par 73 in her tournament debut at the Stanford Golf Course.

The other two scorers for Stanford came from Sydney Burlison and Sally Watson. Burlison shot a round of 7-over-par 78 to tie for 64th, while Watson fired a round of 9-over-par 79 and is tied for 69th.

Lila Barton completed the Stanford lineup with a round of 9-over-par 80. She is currently tied for 73rd.

The Cardinal also had a pair of individuals competing. Rebecca Durham played a solid round of 2-over-par 73 and is currently tied for 34th. Piper Miller shot a round of 8-over-par 79 and is tied for 69th.

The second round of the Stanford Intercollegiate will begin Saturday morning at 8:30 am from the Stanford Golf Course. The Cardinal will look to climb up the leaderboard in their home tournament.
