Women's Golf Finishes 12th At The Stanford Intercollegiate

Stanford, Calif. - Sunday marked the completion of the Stanford Intercollegiate from the Stanford Golf Course. The Cardinal finished 12th overall in a field that included many of the top teams from around the nation. Arizona State won the tournament, while Jennifer Song of USC took the individual medalist honor.

The Cardinal played their best round of the tournament on Sunday with a score of 11-over-par 295. Stanford moved up one spot to finish 12th with a three day total of 41-over-par 893.

Arizona State captured a four stroke victory over UCLA, the only other team under par. Vanderbilt moved up to finish third, while Texas was fourth and USC fifth.

Song fired a 67 on Sunday to earn a three stroke victory over Carlota Ciganda of Arizona State. Marina Alex of Vanderbilt, Anya Alvarez of Washington and Juliana Murcia of Arizona State all tied for third at 4-under.

The Cardinal were led by Rebecca Durham, who tied for 17th overall with a three day total of 2-over-par 215. Durham shot a round of even par 71 on Sunday, but since she was playing has an individual it did not count towards the team scoring.

Senior Angela King matched Durham with a final round of even par 71. King finished the tournament at 4-over-par and tied for 23rd.

Stanford's two freshmen, Kristina Wong and Sally Watson each shot rounds of 4-over-par 75 on Sunday. Wong finished at 8-over-par for the tournament and tied for 38th, while Watson finished at 14-over-par and tied for 51st.

The final scorer for Stanford was Sydney Burlison who fired a round of 74, her best of the tournament. Burlison finished tied for 54th at 15-over-par.

Rounding out the Stanford squad was Lila Barton who also had her best round of the tournament with a 78 on Sunday. Barton finished 77th overall.

Joining Durham as an individual was Piper Miller who placed 76th overall. Miller shot a round of 79 on Sunday to finish at 26-over-par.

The tournament concludes the fall portion of the Stanford season. The Cardinal will not compete again until February 22, 2010, when they travel to the Arizona Wildcat Invitational at the Arizona National GC in Tucson, Ariz.
