Drac Wigo's Seven Goals Help No. 3 Stanford Cruise To 13-6 Win At No. 14 Pacific

Oct. 23, 2009

STOCKTON, Calif. - It would be an understatement to say that senior utility Drac Wigo made quite an impact on No. 3 Stanford's 13-6 victory at No. 14 Pacific in Stockton on Friday night, as he outscored the Tigers by himself with seven goals.

The victory keeps Stanford's MPSF record spotless at 3-0 and improves its overall mark to 15-1 on the year. Stanford will return home for its alumni game Saturday at 4 p.m., and will return to competitive action next Saturday, Oct. 31, hosting the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos at 12 p.m. at Avery Aquatic Center.

Along with Drac Wigo's seven goals to lead all players, Stanford got offensive contributions from Jacob Smith and Janson Wigo, who each scored twice, and Ryan McCarthy and Travis Noll, who each tossed in a score.

On the other side of the tank senior goalie Jimmie Sandman stopped eight shots while freshman Scott Platshon came on in the fourth period and made a save.

The Stanford attack created an early cushion once again Friday, as Drac Wigo scored twice and McCarthy once in the opening frame to stake the Cardinal to a 3-0 lead. The lead would stretch to 4-0 1:23 into the second period as Wigo got his third goal, but a strike from Pacific's Lance Morrison would cut the lead to three at 4-1, which is where things stood at halftime.

In the second half, Noll tallied his goal just 59 seconds into the action, followed by Wigo's fourth goal of the contest just 33 seconds later. Pacific would get two straight goals over the following two minutes to make it 6-3, but that's as close as the Tigers would get as Smith and Janson Wigo would net two more goals and Drac Wigo would bag another pair to extend the Cardinal advantage to 10-3 with 7:19 to go in the contest.

When Wigo scored his seventh goal with 3:21 to play, Platshon would come on in relief of Sandman. The Tigers would manage two more goals before Smith added his second with just over a minute to play to round out the scoring.
