Feb. 6, 2009

Box Score

IRVINE, Calif. - The Stanford men's volleyball team remains searching for its first conference road victory against a ranked team after suffering a 30-25, 30-23, 30-22 loss to No. 3 UC Irvine on Saturday night. The No. 6 Cardinal dropped to 0-4 when playing at the gyms of ranked Mountain Pacific Sports Federation opponents.

Freshman Brad Lawson, last week's MPSF co-player of the week, led Stanford (7-5, 3-4) with 12 kills and Evan Romero had 11. But Stanford hit only .164 as a team and was swept on its two-match trip, after falling in five to UCLA on Thursday.

UC Irvine (9-2, 5-1) got 42 assists - a huge number for a three-set match - from Ryan Ammerman and had three players in double-figure kills.

For Stanford, freshman setter Evan Barry started for the second time this season and had 26 assists.

Stanford returns home next weekend to play host to No. 2 Pepperdine Friday at Maples Pavilion and No. 5 USC Saturday at Burnham Pavilion.
