ATHENS, Ga.- Junior Greg Hirshman earned the Elite 88 Award on Wednesday night at the NCAA Championships banquet in Athens, Ga.

The Elite 88 Award is presented to the student-athlete with the highest cumulative grade-point average participating at the finals site for each of the NCAA's 88 championships.

Notre Dame's Colleen Rielley was the winner on the women's side.

A two-time ITA Scholar-Athlete and Pac-10 All-Academic First Team honoree last year, Hirshman owns a 4.0 GPA and is majoring in economics.

Hirshman is enjoying his best season to date, compiling a 25-8 overall record and 19-3 in dual matches. In addition to winning nine of his last 11 matches down the stretch, Hirshman has produced a 15-1 record at the No. 6 spot to anchor the Cardinal's lower half of the singles lineup.

Through his first two seasons, Hirshman was 36-21 in singles play and 33-16 in doubles competition.

Hirshman and No. 7 Stanford squares off against No. 9 UCLA on Friday at 9 a.m. PT in the NCAA Championship Round of 16.
