Complete ResultsAustin, Texas - The Cardinal concluded the NCAA Preliminary Rounds with several more NCAA qualifiers. Both the men and the women added to their national teams on the final day of the West Regional meet. The women added two individual qualifiers and a relay, while the men had four individual qualifiers in the distances.
The Stanford women were led by Jaynie Goodbody in the hammer. The Cardinal senior placed sixth to qualify for her third consecutive NCAA Outdoor Championships. Goodbody threw 196-1 to earn automatic qualification.
The Cardinal distance crew was led by freshman Kathy Kroeger who advanced to the NCAA Championships in the 5,000 meters. Kroeger placed 11th with a time of 16:39.80 to earn her spot at the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
The Cardinal women also earned a qualifying spot in the 4x100-meter relay. Stanford finished sixth with a time of 44.50. The team was made up of Carissa Levingston, Shataya Hendricks, Brittni Dixon-Smith and Griffin Matthew.
In the triple jump the Cardinal had two competitors, but neither advanced. Whitney Liehr placed 23rd with a mark of 41-5, while Arantxa King placed 24th with a mark of 41-4 ¼.
In the 1,500 meters Madeline Duhon also failed to advance. Duhon placed 18th overall with a time of 4:28.18 and will have to wait until next year.
The Cardinal men were led by three national qualifiers in the 5,000 meters. Elliott Heath led the way by placing second with a time of 14:06.27, while Chris Derrick placed fifth with a time of 14:02.16. In addition, junior Jake Riley qualified for his second event at nationals by finishing 10th with a time of 14:07.48. Riley will now compete in Eugene in both the 5K and the 10K.
The Stanford men's national team will include Dylan Ferris who earned his trip to Eugene in the 1,500 meters. Ferris ran a time of 3:46.76 to earn a spot to his first NCAA Outdoor Championships.
In the relays, the Cardinal finished just out of the qualifying spots. The 4x400-meter relay just missed moving on after placing 13th with a time of 3:07.65. In the 4x100-meter relay, the Cardinal placed 20th with a time of 40.36.Saturday concluded the NCAA Preliminary Rounds with the NCAA qualifiers moving on to the NCAA Championships in Eugene.
