Karynn Dunn Impresses In Heptathlon Debut

Berkeley, Calif. - The 2010 Pac-10 Championships got underway on Saturday from Edwards Field on the campus of California with the multi-events. The Cardinal had a pair of athletes competing in the heptathlon with freshman Karynn Dunn sitting in fifth place after four events.

The Cardinal freshman is competing in her first collegiate heptathlon. Dunn placed third overall in the 200 meters (25.01) to score 886 points in her top finish of the day. In addition, Dunn scored 906 points in the 100-meter hurdles (14.52) and finished seventh. Overall, Dunn has 3,057 points through day 1 and is just 32 points out of fourth place.

Whitney Liehr also competed for Stanford, but no-heighted in the high jump to plague her day. The All-American in the triple jump sits in 11th place with a score of 2,282. Liehr ran a season best time of 13.99 in the 100-meter hurdles for 980 points.

Dunn and Liehr will be back in action tomorrow for the conclusion of the Pac-10 multis. The multis are the first event of the Pac-10 Championships and the scores will go towards the full Pac-10 meet next weekend back in Berkeley.
