McKinney Qualifies for National Singlehandeds After First Collegiate Race

LONG BEACH, Calif.-- Stanford freshman Molly McKinney, in her first collegiate race, qualified for the single-handed nationals after a second place finish at the Pacific Coast Conference's Single-handed Championships on Friday following a second place finish.

Teammate and fellow freshman Sally Mace followed McKinney's 33 points with 34, while sophomore Eliza Richartz was fourth with 37 points. Hannah Burroughs finished sixth (63 points) amongst the 14 competitors.

Channel Islands' Annie Rossi won the event with 30 points, winning three races, McKinney won another two and Mace won three. McKinney finished in the top-four in each of the first seven races, before finishing up with a sixth and eighth place showing. Rossi meanwhile finished second and then won the final race of the afternoon. Mace and Richartz were in the top-five in eight races a piece.

The Cardinal Sailing team continues this weekend with the two-day men's PCC Championship on Saturday and Sunday and another two-day race at St. Mary's (MD).
