Oct. 3, 2010

REDWOOD SHORES, Calif. / NEW LONDON, Conn. – Stanford Sailing won the team race of their own Bryson Regatta, while the coed team in Connecticut finished in 10th place at the Danmark Trophy.

The Cardinal and Hawai'i actually tied with five wins a piece during the round robin portion of the Bryson event, before Stanford won the sail off, to win the today's team race with seven teams and sweep the two-day event, winning the women's race on Saturday.

At the Danmark Trophy, Stanford moved up to 10th place as Mateo Vargas and Rebecca King remained as the fourth-best B Division squad among the 20 competitors (123) and fellow freshman Kevin Laube and Hayley Tobin improved five spots in the A Divison to 12th-best with 206 points.

Vargas and King finished in the top-10 on day two, in seven of 10 races and in 11 of the 16 races overall for 123 points. Tobin, who took over crew duties on day two in the A Division, joined Laube over the final nine races to finish no lower than 15th in all but one race.

In other news, Stanford sailors Hannah Burroughs and Hayley Tobin were each named second team ICSA All-Academic for the 2009-10 calendar year. Burroughs carries a 3.75 GPA as an engineering major, Tobin has a 3.79 GPA as a psychology major.

The Cardinal head back to the East Coast next weekend to compete in the Moody Trophy in Rhode Island and the Navy Fall Women's Regatta in Annapolis.
