SANTA BARBARA, Calif.-- Stanford Sailing trails UC Santa Barbara (46 points) and Hawai'i (61) after the first of two days on the Central Coast, combining for 65 points at the Pacific Coast Conference Dinghy Championships.
Oliver Toole, who was named to the U.S. Youth National Team on Friday, has the top laser score in the C Division with 13 points, while both the A and B Divisions are fourth in its respective divisions. Toole never finished lower than fourth in any of his first six races.
The B Division skippered by Mateo Vargas never finished lower than sixth of the 20 teams, finishing with 19 points. Vargas is six points back from UCSB's top spot of 13 points.
The A Division squad, first skippered by Kevin Laube and then by Nick Dugdale tallied 34 points, 17 behind UCSB.
The regatta finishes on Sunday. Stanford and Cal compete in the seventh annual Big Sail on Tuesday out of St. Francis Yacht Club starting at noon.
