SAN FRANCISCO-- Stanford Sailing won the Big Sail between arch rival California for the sixth straight year, beating the Golden Bears 2-1.

In the winning half mile race, Stanford put the Golden Bears away early sailing well in front to close out the three-hour race on the Bay.

Stanford opened up the event with a win by less than a boat length after Cal was forced to circle just short of the finish line, following a foul by the Golden Bears.

Cal evened the best-of-three race after Stanford was disqualified for sailing too close to the shore.

Alumni under and over 40 also sailed during the day, with Cal winning both exhibition races.

Skippering the winning varsity boat was Nick Dugdale, Ben Pedrick was the tactician, McKenzie Wilson was the jib, Hannah Burroughs was the pit, Kevin Laube handled the mast and Mateo Vargas was on the bow.

The annual event at the St. Francis Yacht Club is a prelude to the 113th Big Game at Cal on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.
